abrupt, kernel, wield

Julianne yanked the duvet off the bed, sending a swirl of dust into the air. After her fit of what her family always called "chihuahua" sneezes subsided, she returned to the task of stripping the bed a little more cautiously. An hour of wielding a can of Pledge and more than one dust rag left her with a room she could live with--at least for the weekend.

A creak in the hallway caused her to hold her breath, waiting for ...what? The other shoe to drop? A knock on the door? A ghostly voice saying, "Trick or treat"? With an abrupt shake of her head, she flung the door open and found nothing. Just an empty hallway and dust motes dancing in the shaft of sunlight that streamed through the open window.

She had turned to head down stairs when she paused as a kernel of memory forced its way into her mind's eye. When she had come up, the window had been closed.

Happy Monday Music Memories! Today, I want to know which song made you cry.

The first song I can remember that made me cry wasn't a love song in the traditional sense, but it was still very much a love song. And, even after nearly fifty years, it still makes me cry.
