Welcome to today's topic of what to know about visiting my city. I live in tTifton, Georgia, USA, named twice as one of the best small towns in the United States. It sits at the crossroads of Interstate 75, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 82, and U.S. Route 319. As you can guess, it's a very busy area when they all come together! And, we are fortunate enough to have seven exits... quite a few for a small town! It didn't hurt that the governor when Interstate 75 was being built was a college roommate of one of Tifton's citizens.
Our town motto is "the friendly city" and I believe it. Of course, I grew up in Tifton... moving here when I was five. It's grown a lot since that time...in 1960, we had a population of 9,903 and it's estimated to now be 17,600. In fact, at one time I would run into people I know every time I went downtown...today, I can be away from the house a full day and never see anyone I even recognize. However, we are still a very friendly city. It's not unusual, especially during hurrican season, for our population to swell due to evacuees.
However, one of the biggest thing I would want you to know if you visit Tifton is, if you come during the warmer months, be sure to be prepared for gnats!!! They are definitely a PITA...even though they aren't harmful at all. So aggravating though!

Sounds like a lovely place to live and grow up! When I was in New Zealand, one of the places we stayed was a lake house and the midges were OUT OF CONTROL. I had never seen so many tiny bugs at once. Hahaha.

This post makes me realize how little I know of Georgia aside from Columbus, the ATL area, and Savannah. I'd like to explore it more, but I work two weekends a month and my girlfriend two hours a way generally likes me to see her once in a while. She does NOT like long car trips, either. XD
ReplyDeleteSouth Georgia has a lot of quaint little out of the way places to visit. Bob and I love to get out and ramble. We were in Columbus a couple of weeks ago... the riverwalk is so beautiful. We also like to visit northern Alabama... beautiful mountains (and not-Atlanta traffic... so a win win)
DeleteTifton sounds lovely. Wow, doubling in size is impressive!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a lovely place to live! 😊
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle at PITA. Took me a second :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, " the friendly city"... What a lovely reputation!
