Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: My Favorite Subject in School

If it's Wednesday, it must be time for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge. Today's topic is "my favorite subject in school." Click here to see the rest of the topics for the year.

I absolutely loved school. All the subjects... at least up to high school. Then I had to start studying... lol. I still loved school, but some subjects were harder than others (math/science).

I absolutely loved English, Language Arts, and History though.

I had a great history teacher who really made history come alive. She told us stories, not just made us memorize dates. And, my fifth grade teacher not only always read to us after lunch, but she had a bookcase and any time we had finished our work, we could pick up a book and read. We had bookmarks where we would mark the date and where we were. I read a lot of books that year, but one I have always remembered is The Lute Player by Norah Lofts (and now I have to re-read it).

How about you?

  2. I've always been fascinated by history. I had a great teacher who actually taught us about some of the tougher bits that seemed to be either omitted from the text books, or at the very least, heavily glossed over.

  3. It's great you had a teacher that let you read what you wanted and gave you the time to do it.

  4. It doesn't surprise me that so many writers also love history; both subjects are all about analyzing stories, looking at their sources and influences, and in many cases trying to decipher what's really going on.

I had one teacher who had a bookshelf in her room we could borrow from. I wonder why more teachers don't do that?

  6. History is fun...Most of the teachers at my school were not specialists in their subjects and would rather have been doing other jobs, and a good half were also menopausal, but yes, nearly all of them did have a selection of books for free reading. One teacher was just a bit finicky about sharing her books with kids and displayed only textbooks, some for grade seven and some further on. Ha! I learned a LOT from her class. (I liked her, btw, and she seemed to like me.)

This is Laura Moseley, BTW. My English teachers in the 7th and eighth grades had “extra credit” boxes, of assignments you could do for additional points. I cleaned out their boxes every year!!!
