Friday Five: lesson, pop, trench, knife, certain



Welcome to this week's Five Word Friday writing prompt. The challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is to use the following five words: lesson, pop, trench, knife, certain

She sat on the edge of the easy chair. Her feet tapped on the floor, and her fingers twisted in her lap. She was anything but easy, that was plain. I was certain that if a book fell or a balloon popped, she would jump right out of her skin.

A man in a trench coat came in, bent down, and whispered to her. I couldn't hear what he said, but I was shocked when he slumped to the floor, the hilt of a knife sticking from his ribs. Let this be a lesson to you, I thought. You can't judge a book by its cover. Who would have ever thought a mousy nervous girl would have the nerve for cold-blooded murder.
