Five Word Friday: Retired Bucket Sit Shout Version

Welcome to this week's Five Word Friday writing prompt. The challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is to use the following five words: Retired Bucket Sit Shout Version

*****

Jonathan sat in his easy chair, his eyes fixed on the television show that was playing. However, he was not absorbing anything of the show. Being retired was not at all what it was cracked up to be. His friends were all excited about him being able to fulfill the items on his bucket list, but the only problem with that is he never had one. Life was always busy enough without dreaming of things he hadn't yet done.

His daughter, a mini-version of her late mother, was always telling him, "Dad, don't just sit around. Find something to do to keep yourself busy. More people die after retirement because of the stress of having nothing to do." He loved her, but he really wished she would find another cause other than him. She was enough to make a man want to shout. But...when the desire came across him... he would picture her mother, take a deep breath, and smile. She meant well.

Maybe he would take up painting.

  2. This was really poignant. My dad struggled a lot when he retired. He’d sound so sad sometimes. He eventually started working again as a consultant:)
