My office is small and cramped. The walls are covered with notes to self, nasty rejection letters from publishers, and suicidal quotes by famous writers. You don't want to look at all that. It's depressing.

So let's look at my desk instead. This is more interesting. And cheerful. See, my desk right now is clear of all clutter. It's the end of another workday and I'm done hacking and editing and sweating and swearing. At day's end, I like a clean disk. And I especially like a clean desk WITH A BEER ON IT. Yes, we writers like to drink beer. Especially if we are IRISH.

The view out my office window, on the other hand, is always good. I live on a small spring-fed lake in South Florida. This area of the world has been scraped clean of all natural beauty in order to put up lots and lots of ticky-tack homes and vast, hideous McMansions. You've got to hunt around to catch a glimpse of a spot with a little natural wildlife. My backyard is one of those places. Raccoons, hawks, songbirds, cormorants and herons, possums, various species of lizards.
And HUGE iguanas.

The iguanas I see out my window are not native to the U.S. In fact, they are former pets and the offspring of pets dumped by owners who didn't wish to care for them anymore. So the iguanas have GONE NATIVE. Iguanas abound in the suburbs of South Florida. These quiet vegetarian reptiles won't bother you, but they can give you a good scare if you don't expect to find a HUMONGOUS REPTILE sunning by your pool.

This guy is around three feet in length. I've seen some closer to six feet. Yeah, we grow 'em big in the sunshine state.

We also have seventeen-foot pythons on the loose, but you don't want to hear about that.

What does all this have to do with my fiction? Not much. I guess you could say I'm sharing some sources of inspiration. My novellas and novels are pretty wacky. Maybe these photos will give you an idea why.

About the Author:
Author Mickey J. Corrigan lives and works and gets into trouble in the lurid tropics of South Florida, where sugarbabies are as common as gators, skeeters and snowbirds. A sugar daddy can make your money woes disappear. But for sugar babies, life is like a chocolate-covered time bomb: sweet on the outside, deadly on the inside.

Young, beautiful, and hungry, Esme, Maire, and Niki want what every woman wants: love, work, safe shelter, the bills paid off, a diamond-studded Rolex and a two-bedroom condo with an ocean view. Working as sugar babies seems to be the only way to make this happen. But the sugar life is more dangerous than they thought.
