I remembered I was tagged a month ago by my friend Jill for a six-word memoir meme, wherein you are challenged to sum up your life in a mere six words. I used to be known as the Queen of Concise in my first writing group... I can do this.. maybe.
"Live to love, read, write, edit." Hmmmm....not bad.
And...she didn't tag me for it, but I'm also swiping her husband meme from last Sunday. Just because.
1. How long have you been together?
We've started dating in January 2003 and married in October that year.
2. Who pursued who?
I don't think it was really a matter of either one of us pursuing the other. Bob had found my name online and sent me a note saying "Hi to one Tiftonite from another"...I added him to my messenger list...and when he came online in a day or two, I said hello and...that was that. We talked for hours the first night. And met in person about a week after that (after talking online every night for hours).
3. Do you wear any type of wedding/commitment ring?
I wear an engagement ring and a wedding ring. The story of the engagement ring. We'd already decided to get married...and I was lying on the couch in the den, sick with a sinus infection. I felt awful. Bob came in from work, knelt down beside the couch, and said, "I brought you a little something that might make you feel better." He had bought my wedding set and gave me the engagement ring. And... amazingly... I did feel better. I wasn't really expecting one. After all, it wasn't the first marriage for either one of us and I would have been okay with a plain gold band. But, I love my ring.
4. What was the hardest thing about learning to live together?
I can't think of any one thing. It's always an adjustment, but Bob and I were raised by the same generation (he's a little older than I am, but I was basically raised by my grandmother) and we'd both been through bad marriages, so I think we realized how unimportant some things are in the big picture.
5. Who takes longer to get ready in the morning?
Bob does, but only because it takes him an hour or so to wake up fully. Neither one of us take a real long time. I take my shower at night (I have long hair and it takes forever to dry), so in the mornings when I get ready to go, all I have to do is put on my makeup (by the way, my friend Marianne finds it funny that I don't leave the house without my makeup...what about y'all? Who goes out au naturel and who puts on their makeup to go anywhere??? Curious minds want to know.), brush my hair, and I'm ready. Bob takes his shower, shaves and gets dressed.
6. Do you usually eat breakfast together?
We eat every meal together. Part of that is that we work together as well, but even when I was staying at home and he still worked in the office, we would have lunch and supper together (we're neither one big breakfast eaters...although we eat breakfast together more now since we work together. We go out for breakfast a lot.)
7. Do you ever share clothes?
Not really... sometimes I'll put on one of his jackets if we're out working and I get cold, but that's about it. We aren't the same size, so...(of course, if I don't stop gaining weight, that might change as far as pants go!!!)
8. Who does most of the cooking?
I do. Because I love it. And because he's a self-confessed "not a good cook." He's fond of saying we're a good pair because I like to cook and he likes to eat. :-)
9. Who usually takes out the trash?
Bob always takes out the trash. I wouldn't mind doing it, but he claims that as "his job." I take the bag out of the inside trash can, tie it up and sit it by the back door. Or if it's full and he's going outside anyway, he'll take it out.
10. If you have pets who usually does litter box or poop patrol?
We only have birds and turtles... and I clean the cage.
11. Which one of you is more likely to answer the phone when it rings?
Neither of us. We really like Caller ID :-)
12. Who's in charge of the remote if you're watching TV together?
Bob does, unless he can't find anything to watch, then he asks me to try (like the shows will have changed...lol. Actually, what it is... Bob doesn't have the patience. If he can't find anything in about fifteen seconds, he's done looking. :-)
13. Who usually drives when you go out together?
Bob always drives
14. Which one of you takes care of spiders and bugs that get into the house?
Whoever's closest to the bug. But we really don't get a lot of bugs.
15. Facing the bed, who sleeps on which side?
I sleep on the left, Bob sleeps on the right. Otherwise it just feels weird.
16. Who usually checks the (postal) mailbox?
We both check it.
17. If something breaks or goes wrong in the house, which one of you is more likely to either fix it or call someone to fix it?
Bob is. He's a lot handier with tools than I am.
18. Who is generally the neater of you?
Neither one of us is the world's best housekeeper. We have a lot of clutter around and we both normally get sick of it at the same time. But...we're working slowly but surely on being better organized.
19. Who handles the checkbook/pays the bills?
I handle the household account. Bob handles the business account. Plus we have an account for special projects that I normally write checks out of.
20. What was your last fight/disagreement about?
We honestly never have any fights or disagreements. Back to the question above, we've both learned there are few things worth really fighting about. If we have a decision to make, we talk it out and decide together what's to be done. That might change down the road, but so far it's worked for us.
21. When you slow dance together, who leads?
Bob does. We don't have a chance to go dancing much. When we get in from work, we're usually too tired to go out. Sometimes we'll dance in the living room if a song we really like comes on...
22.What do you love the most about your other half?
I love how supportive he is of my dreams. I love how he wants to protect and provide for his family. I love how he makes me laugh. I love how he makes me feel pretty, even though I've gained weight since we got married. I love how he loves me.
If anyone wants to play along with either of these, let me know. I'd love to read your answers.
