Books and Writing

I read about a special project over at The Debutante’s Ball and I wanted to share it with you. Masha Hamilton has a new book, The Camel Bookmobile, coming out this spring. It’s the tale of Fiona Sweeney, an American librarian who goes to work for a “relief organization in Africa that sends books on the backs of camels to forgotten villages.” The Camel Bookmobile is not an invention on Masha’s part, however. It is a real endeavor that is in need of our help.

As you all know, reading is very near and dear to my heart. I would go as far as saying that reading is essential. So, I’m proud to participate in The Camel Book Drive. Check at Camel Bookmobile Wish List for a list of books they want. You can also donate from your own library (lightly used, please). Also, check here to find other ways you can help.

We’ve been having computer problems… and now our computer is telling us very unhappy things. Like… for some reason we can’t open Windows. I don’t know a lot about computers, but I DO know that can’t be a good thing. And… I’ve done a very bad thing. Actually, I’ve not done it… and that’s the problem. The “it” I’ve not done? I’ve not backed up ANY of my stories. Zilch. And I even know better. Go ahead… everyone tell me what a ditz I am. From now on, I’m planning on burning my stories on CD AND printing a hard-copy. We’re taking our computer to the doctor tomorrow to see if he can retrieve everything from my document file (all my pictures are there as well and, no, they aren’t all backed up. Some of them are, though, but not all.)

Fifty lashes to Judy with a wet noodle.

I’ve been trying to write a story based on Friday’s prompt from Timeless Tales. I think I started three different versions and deleted every one. The modern day equivalent of wadded up pieces of paper lying all around on the floor. I like prompts. They fuel my imagination. As a matter of fact, many of the short stories I’ve had published have been written as a response to prompts. Oh, well. I’m not giving up yet. I still intend to have SOMETHING written based on that prompt!
What fuels your imagination?
