Sunday Morning Ramblin's

We didn't get a chance to leave for the coast last night (hey... how d'ya like that for stating the obvious???) We finished the large job, then had two smaller jobs to do and we were just flat tired when we got home. There are a few things we need to do around here, then we are heading out. We're taking one of the boats with us (not sure yet which one... that's Bob's area of expertise), I already have the first five chapters of A God-given Husband printed, paperclipped, and my red pen handy so I can work on that, and I've started crocheting an afghan for a friend's baby. Okay, Gracie-Ann will be a year old in a few months, but I have this yarn left over from when I did the girls' scarves for Christmas and it just seems like a good way to use it up.

There's a prediction of rain while we are down there, but that's okay. If we don't get to go fishing, at least we are GETTING AWAY... and right now that's the main thing. We tend to get housebound if we don't make at least a road trip somewhere on a regular basis. Hmmmm... wonder if there's a book based on a road trip....short stories based on one person/couple's journey. The only commonality, the couple and their car... I like that idea. Don't forget, folks, you heard it here. Maybe some of the short stories I write I could slant towards that. What do y'all think? Would anyone at all be interested in reading something like that?

I've been looking through my market guide looking for short story markets. I have a list ready to send off for writer guidelines. It was frustrating, however, because some of the markets that sounded interesting had websites listed. I punch in the URL and .... zilch. No website. Sigh. I found fourteen possible sites. One turned out to be non-paying, but still would be a publishing credit. There were six that listed websites and of those, three were dead links. I need to send off for the writers' guidelines for the other eight (which is on my list of things to do when I get back).

It feels good to have a plan for my writing. I still like "flying by the seat of my pants" when it comes to the actual writing itself, but to have a plan on what to do with the words once they ARE written is comforting.

What is your writing life like?

  1. Have a good time!

Hey, can you either post those markets or email me? Somewhere I still have a spreadsheet that I was putting together...

  2. I've been making more time for more focused writing. I'm great at poetry and short stories. What I need to do is take a short story and turn each paragraph into detailed chapters. I think that may work well.

For now, I'm so glad the creative slump has passed! Seems many were in this rut during Novemember.

  3. Wow, I cannot imagine yet having enough words to fill up five chapters. This writing business is a whole lot harder that I imagined it to be.

  5. Oh, I definitely think having a writing plan helps me. Makes me feel as though I'm moving forward with some semblance of design...

  6. My writing life is frenetic and chaotic. And I wouldn't change a thing. I write full-time as a senior research analyst for a tech research firm. I also freelance on my own time. And I take pictures, so I really appreciated your new-camera experience.

Nice to e-meet you. I look forward to reading more.
