There is a time and place for small talk (described by the dictionary as "light or casual conversation." There are times when you just want to talk about unimportant things... meeting someone for the first time, killing time in line or in a waiting room, or sitting over lunch with a co-worker. These (and more) are times when you don't want to get into anything serious.
As humans, we often find prolonged silence uncomfortable, and small talk serves to mitigate that without getting involved in anything too deep or that would be time-consuming.
So.... small talk is a yes for me.

That makes perfect sense.

You're right about silence being a problem when around other people.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand prolonged, uncomfortable scilences. So much better to jabber incessantly 🤣
ReplyDeleteI'm not wired that way myself, but I can 100% see how that would work for people who, well, aren't quite so me.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we wrote the same answer just in a different style.
