Welcome to this week's Five Word Friday writing prompt. The challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is to use the following five words: ban cane angle firm mind
As Sister Mary Francis stared into the brimming eyes of the girl in front of her, she was transported back in time to a time when she was that child. She had forgotten to spit out the gum she had been enjoying - gum that was banned in the classroom. Not only had she been called to the front of the class and shamed by having to spit it out into the trashcan, her hand still tingled at times from the firm strike of Sister Gertrude's cane as it slashed down at an angle across her palm. The moment was seared in her mind, and there was no way she could make another child live through that - no matter the provocation.
"Sit in your seat, Tiffany," she said. "We'll discuss this after class."
Ouch! I could almost feel that. Good one.
