Friday Five: hell, railroad, chief, abridge, past

Welcome to this week's Five Word Friday writing prompt. The challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is to use the following five words: hell, railroad, chief, abridge, past

*****

Sister Mary Francis frowned at the dusty chairs in the railroad office. There was no way she was sitting on those in her habit. If cleanliness was next to Godliness, these chairs were getting close to hell! No, she would just stand her and wait for the chief of police to get here and let her know why he wanted to meet her here of all places. She knew he would be late - it was already past the time he asked her to meet him. Too bad she couldn't set him to writing an abridged form of the catechism as her old schoolmistress was fond of doing as punishment!
