If it's Thursday, it must be time for

There was a widely bruited-about statistic reported last week, stating that 1 in 4 Americans did not read a single book last year. Clearly, we don’t fall into that category, but . . . how many of our friends do? Do you have friends/family who read as much as you do? Or are you the only person you know who has a serious reading habit?

Everyone I know, pretty much, are readers. Bob used to be as avid a reader as I am, but life got in the way. He's well on his way, now, to becoming one again. We both have several books on our bedside table and read every night before turning out the light. He also does a lot of reading on the computer.. he loves tales of sailing and boating.

All of our kids read all the time. As a matter of fact, Beth spent her vacation with us curled up in my papasan chair with a book. Her job keeps her so busy she doesn't get to read as much as she likes, so she made up for it this past weekend.

  1. Actually, by one way of reckoning it, I came close to meeting that statistic last year.

Other than reading to the children (several books a night) and reading for work (a few books a year) I may not have finished more than a half dozen other books last year.

Time was, pre children, I would read three or five books a week. Every week. Fifty two weeks a year.

I feel bad about it, but what can you do? I still buy them, intend to read them, but some how I have forgotten how!

Michele sent me to confess this to you tonight,
    N.

  2. Stopped by from Michele's blog today...
I haven't read a book in ages...I am sorry to say..I used to read a cpl books every week..but I do read alot of blogs and things on the net, it's certainly not the same but some reading is better then none at all lol. I will reserve some quiet time for myself one of these weekends though..and just read some good books...hmmm the thought of it makes me smile.

  3. You have a papasan chair? NICE! My mom used to have one and I just love to sit there. LOL. Happy reading, Judy!

  4. Hi Judy - thanks for stopping by my blog. I sometimes think it is amazing how we let our busy lives get in the way of such simple pleasures.

  5. I don't read as much as I used to, since some of my reading time is taken up by blogging and reading a million other blogs. I do still read quite a bit though.

My husband reads tons online, and I read out loud to him sometimes, but I don't think I've ever seen him finish a book in the thirteen years I've known him.
