I've Been Randomized

Marianne was randomized by GroovyOldLady(and she is... make sure you check her out if you don't know her already) and offered the same opportunity to anyone who would take her up on it. So... without further ado, here are my answers to her random questions.

1. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
I think I would choose to be Scarlett O'Hara, because I love the clothes from that time period. Also, I would make sure she didn't let Rhett get away ;-)

2. Share one thing you love and one thing that drives you batty about your husband/significant other.
I love that my husband enjoys so many of the same things I do. We just enjoy each other's company and never get tired of being together. Good thing, since we work together, huh? Nothing really drives me batty about him, but I love having my back scratched and massaged and his hands always "give out" before I'm ready for him to be done. Does that count?

3. If you could go back to high school and repeat one particular day, which day would you choose? Would you change anything about the day? Why or why not?
I don't remember the date, but my best friend since elementary school and I had an argument. She had started hanging around with the "rougher kids" in school... the druggies. Instead of trying to understand her, we pretty much stopped talking. She dropped out of school and moved to Atlanta. While I was in college I found out she had been murdered there. I don't know if anything would have changed if I had been more understanding, but I've always felt I could have been a better friend.

4. Death penalty -- are you for or against? Why? Convince me to agree with you.
I wish I could convince myself. I can see both sides of the argument and I don't really know if there IS a right or wrong answer. There are some crimes so heinous that I believe they should be paid for with the criminal's life. However, that is if there is absolutely no doubt that the accused is guilty. There have been so many cases where people have been proven "not guilty" after they have spent years in prison. This isn't a copout... I'm just really not sure where I stand on this issue.

5. What's the earliest memory you can recall? How old were you?
The first clear memory I have is watching the January 31, 1961, launch of Ham, the first chimpanzee in space. I was in kindergarten and our teacher had us all sit on the floor (this was back in the days of the console TV's that sat on the floor). I can still remember the thrill of seeing that rocketship take off. Here's a picture of the old TVs. I don't remember what the one at kindergarten looked like, but here's a picture of the TV I grew up with. It had a turntable on one side and a radio on the other.

This was fun. Thanks, Marianne. If anybody else wants to be "randomized," leave me a note in the comments.

I agree with you on the death penalty. If there was a way you could absolutely be certain that someone is guilty, then the punishment should fit the crime.

  3. Hi Judy, sorry to hear about your best friend. :(

I've enjoyed your answers. Mine's up too at my bloggie.

Oh yeah... I remembered seeing a TV at home, like the one in the picture. It had a sliding door and it was a Philips...

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. With the death penalty I feel that if a criminal has no remorse then the sentence should be death...why keep a killer alive? But if the person shows remorse then living with that fact is the punishment.

About your friend...I had a friend like that in high school too. When she strayed I tried to talk her out of it, but my argument wasn't as strong as the addiction so I just went my own way. Her mom later said to my mom "Why is it that Renee always seems to be out of the picture when there is trouble? I wish I had paid more attention to the fact that she wasn't around any more." Last I heard my friend had 3 kids and was doing okay. I'm sorry things didn't turn out for your friend.

I vaguely remember TVs like that.

And I agree about the death penalty. In some cases, I think it's needed.

*hugs* re your high school friend. :(
