I found a great new Wednesday meme… of sorts. It’s not really a meme, but more of a weekly writing prompt exercise. Renee has it on her site today. It’s “Three Word Wednesday,” sponsored by Bone and I don’t know how on earth I’ve missed it, but apparently I have because this week’s is number 24! Anyway, so as not to waste any more time, here are the rules:

“Each week, I [Bone] will post three (or more) random words. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something using all of those words. It can be a few lines, a story, a poem, anything. This is a writing exercise. It doesn't have to be perfect. The idea is to let your mind wander and write what it will. I'll also attempt to write something using the same three words.

Be sure to leave a comment if you participate.

This week's words are:
Wilted
Drawer
Ink

Here I go:

The ink smudged as my tears dropped on the letter he left. Even after fifteen years, the words had the power to make me cry. Why do I continue to do it to myself? Why do I keep his letters, along with the wilted roses, in the drawer… only to pull them out yearly to weep anew? My husband tells me I should move on…get on with life. But, how can I turn my back on the sixteen year old boy who spent his first paycheck on roses for his mother, who wrote her a letter telling her how much he appreciated her, who was the victim of a drunk driver on his first night out with the car? Yes, they may make me cry every year, but they are tears of joy for the time we had as well as sorrow for the time we’ve missed out on.

If you decide to play along, leave a comment here and let Bone know you’re playing.
