I was (and still is) an inveterate bookworm... only these days with life and work I don't get as much time to read as I once did. Growing up, if I weren't outside playing with my sister (or doing chores) I would have my nose stuck in a book (or my eyes focused on the cereal box at the table, because we were not allowed to read at the table (unless no one else was at the table with us). And, it didn't matter what it was... if it had words it was readable. Mama never set limits on what we could and couldn't read. I ran into a classmate several years ago and we were talking about school. She made the comment that one of her strongest memories of me was a group of them asking if I wanted to go with them to Shady Lane to get a sour ice (so good) but that I was at an exciting part of my book so I turned them down. Also, I'm pretty sure they were skipping school to go, and I knew in my own mind that if I went with them, something would happen and I would get caught... so, yeah, there's that... I was also (and still am) pretty much a rule-follower. We had a place at the lake and every weekend we were there.... so there was no dating for me and I didn't miss it. Laying out, swimming, hours to read...what could be better?

Nothing wrong with rule following, Judy! 😊 I was similarly minded. Even more so as an adult. Also, I was never far from a book. I took one everywhere I went, which was never far.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you were a delightful kid! I was a rule follower, too.
ReplyDeleteHail to my fellow rule follower. Where would the modern world be without us? One would think that with all the cereal boxes I read, I would be a label guru. It's so great to get to know you better
