Happy New Year (okay, okay... I know it's two weeks in, but it's the first time I'M posting on WWBC this year, so it still counts.
The first TV show I remember watching.... it's been a hot minute, y'all. I mean, as a kid, my sister and I would lie on the floor and watch television on this:
I remember watching a lot of shows as a kid - The Virginian, Leave it to Beaver, The Honeymooners, Lassie, Gunsmoke, Maverick, Batman, Walt Disney, Wild World of Sports..... so many shows. The first one? I have no idea.
However, I do remember my mom telling me that when Tennessee Ernie Ford would come on, I would run to the kitchen and, very excitedly, say, "Mama, Ern's on!!!!!"..... so I'm going with that one. Apparently I REALLY liked Ern. :-)

Batman was, and still is, one of my firm favourites. I used to watch reruns of the original series from the 60s and then I loved the 90s animated series. The other Batman cartoons before and since don't compare. We also watched Lassie, too. It always made my sister cry!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cryer too..... and it doesn't have to be a show. Hallmark commercials...check. Budweiser commercials with puppies....check. Toy Story... check (my kids still give me grief about that one).
DeleteAww, that’s adorable!
ReplyDeleteSo, you're not much older than I am, if any, but your neighborhood got television earlier. (Most of the US did.) I remember "Lassie" too. "Gunsmoke" and "Maverick" existed, and a kid at school was called Rawhide, but Grandmother hated "shoot-em-up Westerns" and wanted me to learn about "the real Old West" from less violent books like "Smoky, a Cow Horse" and "Little Town on the Prairie," so I watched "Gunsmoke" only when it became madly popular with older people here, in reruns, on cable.
ReplyDeletePriscilla King (Google now loops me back through "Allow cookies" after I click on "Google account." Isn't its pathetic whining for cookies sort of cute? Like the Cookie Monster!)
I remember my parents have a similar TV. That story is adorable though. Reminds me of how my younger girl acted whenever she saw or heard Trace Adkins. :D
ReplyDeleteHere is my post.
Happy new year! Loved those shows, especially Lassie and Leave it to Beaver. Thanks for sharing.

I know, as in I've heard his name before many times, Tennessee Ernie Ford; I did not know he had his own show! I'm going to see if it is available for streaming somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI can remember watching Disney and the Wild World of Sports (with that crazy snow skiing scene at the beginning, right?)
These shows were before my time. I watch a lot of cartoons as a kid but, don't know the first one I watch.
