Welcome to another edition of Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge! Today's question is all about Favorite Book Quotes.
Stephen King has a couple (okay, more than a couple) on writing that I really like ... even if I don't always take them to heart:
“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.”
― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
The last one leads to one of my all time favorite quotes:
"That was the moment when I changed from an amateur to a professional. I
assumed the burden of a profession, which is to write even when you don't want
to, don't much like what you are writing, and aren't writing particularly well."
-Dame Agatha Christie
And... quotes that are not particularly associated with writing but that I love:
"All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it," says The Guardian - from The Little Prince
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it." from To Kill a Mockingbird
“It's the job that's never started as takes longest to finish.” from The Lord of the Rings
What are some of your favorites?

I love these. I also find it hard to "kill my darlings" though I've found it eases the pain to save everything I delete from a project in a separate folder for possible use later. I love On Writing.
ReplyDeleteThe kill your darlings quote is interesting....I wonder if it has to be literal death, or just emotional torture for the sake of drama?
ReplyDeleteOn Writing was such a good read.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great! The Christie quote can honestly be applied to life in general - whether you like it or not, sometimes, you just have to do the thing.
ReplyDeleteHere is my post.
