Anna stood, shaking the sand from her skirts.
"I have to be off," she said to her friend. "They'll be looking for me soon."
"I know some girls dream of becoming a princess," Mary said with a sniff, "but not me. I wouldn't have your life for anything. Too many rules and regulations. I'll keep on being a peasant, thankyouverymuch."
Anna recovered the tube she'd been using to blow the sand away from the shells Mary was collecting to make jewelry, then paused.
"It's not that bad," she said. "And you are far from being a peasant."
