The Author's View

I operate my sales consulting business from my home office, where I take calls from clients, deliver virtual workshops and write many blog posts. Most recently I wrote a business book entitled, Enabler? I Hardly Know Her! How to Make the Sales Experience Not Suck, which focuses on optimizing the Sales Experience. When I want to write fiction, I need to separate from my “business self”, so I move to a different area of the house as a change of scenery. We have a couch that is positioned by the front window of the house, which allows me to sit comfortably with my feet up and a comfy cushion supporting my back. There I can enjoy the natural sunlight from the window and the fresh air when it’s not too cold here in Toronto! I have a lovely garden in the front yard, so I often just gaze outside at my beautiful flowers and our huge fir tree, or up into the sky as I think about how to craft my story. We live right in the city, so a lot of my view is made up of the neighboring houses and garages. As I sit and write, I’ll wave at the neighbors and dog walkers passing by on the sidewalk.

I am not the only one in the house who enjoys sitting on the couch by the front window. Our cat, Pickle, loves to sit on the edge of the couch and look outside with me! Quite often if I’m sitting, typing away, he’ll pop onto the couch and demand cuddles, or poke his head into my laptop. Mostly he’ll just sit and watch the various creatures outside: squirrels looking for food and birds hopping up and down in the tree. Things get interesting if one of the neighborhood cats patrols by – he does NOT like other cats visiting his yard – and he’ll often chirp or bat the window to chase them away. He spends so much time in my view, he is one of the reasons my next children’s book will be about his adventures!

It was business as usual at the Acme Science Lab, until one day a massive explosion sent the scientists fleeing for safety.

But out of the smoke and chemicals emerged an amazing new creature... Bartholomew Blob!

With the lab destroyed, Bartholomew leaves the comforts of the only home he has ever known in search of new friends and a place to live.

As he travels through golden fields his body changes color with every emotion he feels.

Life can be lonely for a blob, but Bartholomew discovers there's kindness and love to be found in every adventure.

Smoke and chemicals mixed, and strange sounds came from the now empty lab. Sounds like… gurgling and burping? The door of the lab smashed open and out came…

… a small, roundish shape! It was midnight black and had the size and form of an upside-down cereal bowl. It slithered instead of rolled. It looked like melted dark chocolate but had a perfume like smell.

Suddenly, two roundish holes opened and turned pale blue. It had eyes! It could see! What in the world could this creature be?

Why… it’s Bartholomew Blob!
