Today, the view outside my writing space is lovely.
This morning, I’m choosing to write outside. There’s a set of French doors that open up to the balcony off my bedroom. There, I’m sitting at my lime green bistro set, looking out onto my backyard.
Tiers of garden space line the perimeter. I’ve never considered my thumb to be green, but it’s not nearly as black as it once was. Today, perennials make up most of the flowers in the yard and an abundance of ivy dress those areas I’ve neglected over the years. Hummingbirds and cardinals are common visitors, and a pesky chipmunk keeps trying to dig his way under my rock patio off the deck.
It’s quiet, except for the quiet buzzing of insects and the occasional sounds of cars coming off the streets from my subdivision. My kids are at school and daycare, which is why I’m able to enjoy this morning to myself. I can see their tree house from where I’m sitting. They call it a “fort”, but it’s anything but. Their tree house has a deck for sitting and is carpeted and decorated with whatever pink furniture I was able to find at the local Hobby Lobby. My husband even made sure that he ran electric so that the girls had lights in case they wanted to sleep out there.
I’m nomadic about my writing space. I wander around the house looking for the ideal place and settle in with my laptop and whatever beverage of choice once I’ve found it. Today it’s my balcony, tomorrow it might be in the office. The view outside my writing space is ever changing and I owe a great deal of my creativity to that ability to channel the muse from just about anywhere.
Marcus Winston, the Duke of Grayson, has a lackluster reputation. The last in a dying line, he’s endured a protected life—rank with privilege, encumbered by isolation. After a brief encounter with rebellion, he learns the devastating consequences of his carelessness and willingly accepts living life from inside his gilded cage.
However, a chance meeting with the brazen Miss Tisdale gives Marc the opportunity to reinvent himself into the man he’s always dreamed of being. When his deception comes to light, and ghosts from both their pasts threaten to unravel the intimacy they’ve come to cherish, will either of them set their fears aside long enough to embrace love? Or will Miss Tisdale’s stubbornness divide them?
