From the first time Sadie’s eyes met those of Brody McKenna in the hot Sierra Madre Mountains, theirs was a potent attraction—not gentle, slow, and easy, but hot, hard, and all-consuming. The daughter of a dysfunctional family, Sadie had dreams no man could wrench from her with hot sex and an all-consuming passion. She’d challenge this alpha male with all the strength she possessed. But her red hair, fiery temperament, and indomitable spirit obsessed Brody...and he knew he had to find a way to show her he was more than he appeared and convince her to make a life with him.
Excerpt:
Sadie's body shook with a fierceness she couldn't understand. The trembling wasn't from the cold but from fear, and the terror that Lyn might die because of her stupidity. Despite the warnings and the knowledge, she walked into the devil's arms.
How many times had she been told not to leave the ranch? An unvoiced explicative flew in her mind.
How many times had Lyn promised to protect her? Now Lyn might have paid the ultimate price for that undertaking.
Her life.
"It's going to be all right." Brody's assurance did nothing to make her feel better. She didn't want to open her eyes and look up the hill. She didn't want to see Lyn's lifeless body.
"You don't know that. It was my fault. Her cat form is so beautiful. I've never seen...she is one of a kind, isn't she?"
Brody stroked her hair then turned her face to meet his gaze. "Open your eyes, sweet Sadie. Lyn isn't dead. The Chullachaqui is. Nigan will see to Lyn and she will heal. Soon she will be back to her feisty little self. And yes, albinos are rare in any animal."
Sadie did as Brody requested. What she saw made her heart stop. Carr carried Lyn's limp body. Still in her cat form, she appeared lifeless. "Is she going to be all right?" She wanted to beat her fists against Brody's chest until she had no more energy, and she needed to see into the future.
"I told you, she will be fine." Brody pulled her close. "You are warmer now. I'm glad."
He should be asking her why she had been a reckless fool. Why she'd put Lyn in danger. Instead, he tried to soothe her shattered emotions. "Lyn doesn't look fine. She's not moving. I can't see her breathe. And the blood, why is there so much? That should be me, not Lyn."
"We can have this argument until doom's day. As a shifter, I know things that cannot be explained. Believe me, please. You don't need to worry. Carr will take her to gramp's healing lodge and when the two of them emerge, Lyn will be well and just as cocky as she has always been. Don't say it should be you who is injured. Don't ever say or think that again."
"Carr, he's naked." Sadie nodded in Carr's direction. "He..."
"That's the thing about shifting. It wreaks havoc on clothing if one doesn't have time to disrobe. We were a bit pressed, it seems. Good thing Lyn is covering him."
