The Writer's View

Hi Judy, and thanks so much for having me here today! It's interesting to think about what we see when we write and where we choose to compose. I don't actually have one specific writing space in the house. Since I compose entirely on my laptop, it goes wherever my mood takes me – which might include the dining room, the living room, the office, the back porch, or even the basement on especially hot summer days. Oh, not to mention my local Starbucks! That's a favorite writing space as well.

But there is one place in my home where I write most often, and that's our sunroom. You can see from the picture that the view is glorious. It looks out on our sloping front lawn, and the 5 windows mean there is always an abundance of sunlight. I love that, at this time of year, I can also see green every direction I look. Fall is beautiful as well, as you can imagine. The loveseat is where I curl up and write, unless it's inhabited by one or more cats. Then I have to gently hustle them elsewhere.

In winter, the sunroom changes its appeal. In the corner that we have a pellet stove, and though I didn't want it installed when my husband first suggested it (I thought it would look "ugly" lol), I've since changed that opinion 180 degrees. The sunroom becomes the coziest room in the house when the snow's piling up and the wind is whistling outside. Sometimes I enjoy the view of a good New York blizzard; other times I pull the window shades down so I can just gaze at the flames in the stove instead. Either way, under a couple of blankets, I still find it a quiet, peaceful place to write.

The seasons pass outside those windows. Story ideas develop inside them. My sunroom, without question, is my favorite writing space. And yes, most of The Promise of Paradise was written (one very hot, steamy summer) in that very room, on that very loveseat. Enjoy!

About the Author: Allie Boniface is a small-town girl at heart who's traveled around the world and still finds that the magic and the mystery of small towns make them the best places to fall in love and find adventure. From the New England coast to Rocky Mountain hotels to tiny European bars, she's found more character and plot inspirations than she could ever count. Currently, she's lucky enough to live in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley with her own "Hometown Hero," a guy who can fix, build, drive, and grill anything and is the epitome of the strong and silent type.

When she isn't writing love stories, Allie is a full-time high school English teacher who gets a kick out of helping her teenagers negotiate the ups and downs of writing along with the ups and downs of life (because, really, she's still trying to do the same thing!). And while she'll continue to travel far and wide, Allie knows there's really nothing like coming back to the place where the people who have known you forever welcome you home with open arms.

Harvard grad Ashton Kirk is headed for a promising law career when scandal breaks apart her family. To escape, she changes her name and rents an apartment in the small town of Paradise, New Hampshire, where no one knows who she is.

Ash hopes for solitude, but all bets are off when Eddie West, the town’s most eligible bachelor, moves in downstairs. The sexy auto mechanic loves his women and his cars shiny, sleek, and fast, and when he meets his new housemate, he wastes no time getting friendly. But Eddie is nursing his own recent loss, and the last thing he wants to do is let someone new into his life or his heart.

Can two people from different worlds find common ground and a place to fall in love? Or will Ashton’s past and Eddie’s scars keep them apart just as summer heat brings them together? Is it possible to find your soul mate in the place you least expect?

  2. The last house I owned had a sunroom with a pellet stove. It was wonderful in the winter and kept the room lovely and warm. It was my favorite room in the house and I still miss it.

  4. I have a "Carolina Room"...the NC version of a sunroom. Ours has no heating or cooling, so it's too hot in the summer but is pretty spectacular the other 3 seasons. Ours looks out on our sprawling backyard rather than the front yard. I don't do any writing out there, but I do a lot of reading and day dreaming.
