Hello readers!  I’m Debra Dunbar and I’m excited to be here today.  My urban fantasy novel, ELVEN BLOOD was released this month – to celebrate I’ll be selecting one commenter to receive an e-version of the first book in the Imp series, A DEMON BOUND.  I’ll also be selecting one commenter from my blog tour to win a Kindle Fire with an ELVEN BLOOD cover skin.  Free stuff – don’t miss out!

My writing space is less than idea – a couch and coffee table in the “parlor” of our 1820’s farmhouse.  It’s what I see when I open the door that sends my heart soaring.  Hubby, the kids and I live on 125 acres of farmland in Maryland.  Our family also owns several adjoining farms; which means we have almost 900 wooded and pastured acres to ride horses or take long walks.  Here’s a glimpse into my world:

This is a typical spring morning on our farm, with cows and horses grazing the fields, and white clouds racing across the blue sky.  Yes, it’s pretty muddy out there, so make sure you’ve got good sturdy boots before heading out.  Just past the tree line in the distance are my brother-in-law’s fields- plowed and ready for planting. We also have 3 very friendly ewes that are out of sight in a side pasture.

Two of our Embden geese are looking after this little gosling right outside our barn.  We bought four geese to serve as protectors to our free range chickens and ducks, but their numbers have expanded to nine over the years.  Embdens are big and aggressively protect the other fowl.  We’ve yet to see a fox willing to take them on, and even some of our friends are intimidated by their hissing.

Each year we expand our hop yard a little further.  We’re currently up three acres and the plants are so impressive in late summer, vining up the 15 foot poles and heavy with cones.  Local breweries buy up as much as they can for their special fresh-hopped harvest ales, but we hold some back for our own use.  Hubby converted the old dairy into a brewery, and in February of this year opened for business.  We’re one of the only farmhouse breweries in the state, and customers love dropping in to experience the beautiful views while picking up a growler of ale.

I’ll leave you with my favorite picture- at dusk, overlooking our neighbor’s farm.  I love how this illustrates the rolling landscape so typical of Maryland.  One of my three sons is admiring the sunset, a little boy in a vast field of green.

You might wonder that I get any writing done at all with this beauty right outside my window! Sometimes it’s hard, but mostly the scenery clears my muddied thoughts and grounds me.  It’s a breath of fresh air, so necessary when I’m chewing over a sticky plot point or a difficult scene.

Farm or city?  People or animal watching?  What’s the inspiration right outside your window?

Sam may be the Iblis, but she is also an imp with a price on her head.  The powerful demon Haagenti won’t rest until she’s dragged back to Hel for “punishment”.  Sam knows she can’t face Haagenti and win, so when an Elf Lord offers to eliminate the demon in return for her help, Sam accepts.  It’s a simple job – find and retrieve a half-breed monster dead or alive.  But finding this demon/elf hybrid isn’t proving easy and time is running out.

  5. Great post! What wonderful imagery you have available to you, no wonder the IMP series has a feeling of real Maryland and the surrounding area. For myself, I prefer the quiet of a small town, slightly removed from the comings and goings of people.
