Carla Neggers’ new Swift River Valley novel, That Night on Thistle Lane (Harlequin MIRA, February 2013, contemporary), is being released early next year. I love her suspense novels!! This one sounds like a winner.
If you’ve read Carla, you know she writes a deeply atmospheric, richly textured story with plenty of unanticipated plot developments. According to all reports, That Night on Thistle Lanelives up to Carla’s reputation. This reading gem finds Phoebe O’Dunn discovering a hidden room in her small-town Massachusetts library. Among its secrets is a cache of spectacular vintage Hollywoodesque gowns that sends her on a mission to discover their source—and their designer. Phoebe wears one to a gala masquerade in Boston and meets a mysterious, handsome swashbuckler. They part without any expectation of meeting again, but meet they do, and an unexpected threat prompts them to reveal their true identities. The story has more twists and turns than a Halloween corn maze. It sounds like delicious reading!
Because of the library angle, on November 12 Carla is going to launch a My Favorite Library Contest, encouraging readers to nominate their favorite library and tell her what part the library has played in their lives. Carla will pick her favorite entry, and that library will receive a collection of Carla’s books and a $500 stipend. Tifton-Tift County Public Library would love to win (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). After all... it is MY favorite library!!!
That Night on Thistle Lane goes on sale about the same time as the announcement of the Academy Award nominations, so on or about January 13 Carla is going to launch a Favorite Vintage Hollywood Gown of All Time poll on her website, www.carlaneggers.com. Feel free to participate...it should be fun!
