Booking Through Thursday

Before I get started, I want to let you know "Mariah Talbot"-- who is in actuality the writing team of Marianne and me--has a new short story up at LASR. Go read it. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

You may be getting a lot more stories from me, Marianne, and Mariah. Since we've started the Short Story Contest we don't have regular short story submissions...lol. You supposed everyone wants to win the prize instead? :-)

Okay... on to BTT:

Books and films both tell stories, but what we want from a book can be different from what we want from a movie. Is this true for you? If so, what’s the difference between a book and a movie?

For me... I don't think I really want anything different from a book and a movie. I want a good story from both. Something that will hold my interest. Maybe make me think, but mostly will just entertain me. And just like I enjoy many genres of books, I like different types of movies, depending on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I can pick up an old favorite that fits like the proverbial pair of shoes (in the movies, this would mostly be musicals or a well-loved older book). Other times I want a little bit of suspense (Dean Koontz is good for that).

This is an interesting question and I'm looking forward to reading the responses.

I agree. I enjoy both mediums in their way. It's probably better not to compare them, though I end up doing it!

Both mediums offer much. However, I prefer books.

I will go and read your story NOW!

    Here is my BTT post!

I much prefer books. Even when I was a kid. My mom would look at me in semi-amazement when I didn't want to watch a movie on tv because I was reading.

You're right, books and movies offer many of the same elements to enjoy. Well said!

  6. I agree. Both are so different in their own ways, but if I'd choose, I'd always go for the books first. :)
