August Happiness Challenge- Day Twenty-three

~~~~~I'm happy because I SLEPT last night! As I said yesterday my insomnia was playing up and I didn't get a bit of sleep. So, sleep is good...:-) Thankfully, I don't have nights like that often, not like some people I know.
~~~~~And, I'm happy because I've decided to join a new weekly meme.

Booking It As a Family

When growing up did your family share your love of books? If so, did one person get you into reading? And, do you have any family-oriented memories with books and reading? (Family trips to bookstore, reading the same book as a sibling or parent, etc.)

Our family absolutely shared a love for reading. My aunt, cousins, and sister ALL have stacks of books sitting around their house. Anytime I go to visit, I can always count on coming home with new reading material. And, there were always books at the house. I remember one time (I was maybe eight or nine), Mama walked in and I was reading From Here to Eternity. She said, "Don't you think that books a little too old for you?" I didn't tell her it was my third time reading it :-)

Granted, there were things in the book that were inappropriate for an eight-year-old, but I didn't understand them anyway... so just skipped those parts. That's one benefit (among many) benefits reading has over things like movies and television. THOSE images can stay with you, whether you are emotionally ready for them or not.

~~~~~And now... the daily quiz I'm swiping from Marianne:
You Are a Carousel
You are young at heart and a truly playful person. No one would ever accuse you of taking life too seriously.
You are definitely in things for the fun. You find joy easily, and you are often building up anticipation for your next adventure.
In relationships, you tend to want to be babied and taken care of.
And while you may be a bit high maintenance, you are incredibly loyal.
Your life is simple and satisfying. Each day you treat yourself to something you enjoy.
You have a lot of emotional attachments, and experiences are extra vivid to you.
You tend to be nostalgic and sentimental. The past is important to you.
Comfortable around all living things, you have a special connection to animals and children.
At your best, you are whimsical, free spirited, and creative.
Even if your schemes seem a bit strange, they usually work out wonderfully.
At your worst, you are spoiled, demanding, and impossible to satisfy.
You've been known to act like a brat if you aren't getting your way!
Other than being high maintenance, which I really don't think I am, this isn't far off the target. And... I don't think I'm EVER at my worst ;-) What do y'all think?
    I couldn't find your email, so I had to resort to this comment. I would love to pick your brain about writing as a profession (even if it is only freelance.)
    Please email me (rather than leave a comment), we'll chat.
    best,
  3. I read mom's books as soon as I could -- The Hobbit and Zane Grey were some of the first books I read -- before I was even into double digits!
  4. My parents both instilled a love for reading in me. My mother's parents too. :-)
    I am a log ride, evidently. The log ride was always my favorite at the state fair, I admit! As for the description - it was pretty spot on. Haha
