Christmas is Coming...

... and the geese are not the only things getting fat! DH and I have both been trying to lose a few extra pounds that seem to be holding on for dear life. Granted, neither of us would fall into the "obese" category, but we would both feel better if we lost twenty pounds or so. I was reading a favorite columnist of mine and he was talking about something he had heard... "intuitive dieting." I agree with him... from the way he described it, it sounds a lot like common sense. I think I'll do a bit more reading on it and see what it's about (probably just a new excuse for someone to sell a book).

Selling a book... that sounds like a wonderful plan. I have plans and dreams about doing the same thing. I know it will take more work than dreaming, but nothing gets done unless the dream comes first. I hold fast to that thought. Dreams ARE important. One of my favorite musicals is the OLD Rogers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella and one of my favorite songs in it goes "But the world is full of zanies and fools who don't believe in sensible rules and won't believe what sensible people say.. and because these daft and dewey eyed dopes keep building up impossible hopes impossible things are happening every day!" Now, I know that just wishing hard enough won't make a novel be published... but those wishes and hopes will get you through doomsayers who talk about giving up. The rest is hard work.

So... I know it's a bit early for New Year's Resolutions, but here it goes anyway... I am hereby resolved to become more of a "daft and dewey-eyed dope" and work away... short stories, novels, articles. Short stories and articles: write them and keep them in the mail looking for homes. Novels: continue to work on honing my craft, working on getting to know my characters, where they are and why they are doing what they are doing. My goal: To have both "Fiona's Dream" and "Lizzie" ready to find a home by the end of 2006; to have short stories and articles continually in the mail; to make a start of rewriting "The Seventh Day." My friends... I'm putting this here in public so y'all can help hold me accountable.

Wavering about whether to hit the publish key or the delete key... closing my eyes and hitting.
