THE VIEW INSIDE MY WRITING SPACE

My writing view is a lot messy. I’m sure most writers will say, they work in impeccable, pristine spaces. I’m striving for that, but right now, it’s a lot messy. My writing space has stacks of papers on one side and a large printer on the other. I use the drawers as desk returns where I keep my planner and manuscripts I’m revising.

My office space is currently the victim of a very long renovation process. So until it’s ready, I’m working in the kitchen. I sit in front of a large screen desktop and churn out books.

What’s my temporary view like? The view to my right faces my backyard. Sounds like I’d be seeing birds and bright sunshine. Nope. I cleaned out my storage unit and everything is in the back yard. Occasionally, a squirrel or a stray cat pops by.

My other view is a window opposite the refrigerator facing my neighbors' upstairs. Funny thing, it wasn’t until a few months ago that I noticed there was bullet hole in their window.

Let’s talk about my new writing space which I hope to be in by the end of Summer. I bought a nice vintage desk for twenty-five dollars. This desk has had several lives with me. It’s new life begins with a coat of black gel paint and a glass top. Right now, it’s facing a vanilla wall and has a pink lamp. I’m thinking about painting the lamp black. We’ll see. My desk chair is another recycled piece. I’ve had this slipper chair for years. I had it slip covered in a great leopard print velvet fabric.

What’s the view like? Right now, it’s a clean white wall. However, I’m think about painting black and add vanilla colored idea boards. All I can say is, it will be a great space to work, once it’s all dressed.

MediaKit_BookCover_GenerationalCurseGENERATIONAL CURSE is the story of what happens when a celibate Christian Man befriends a woman involved with a married man. Will he run in the other direction or continue the relationship? Or will he abandon his Christian beliefs for a taste of the forbidden? Or will she learn that being with a married man isn’t the fantasy life the generations of women in her family made it appear?

Sean Prescott and Kyla James are business associates playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse, hoping the other will give in. But in this high stakes game is there really a winner or will both be losers?

Enjoy an excerpt:

“I wanna get married,” Eric announced.

Kyla leaned up against the headboard. “Excuse me?”

“I want, let me rephrase that. If I want to be taken seriously as a marriage therapist, it would help if I were married.”

“I see.”

“Most of the couples I’ve been working with are beginning to question my ability to treat them, seeing I’m not married. So, what do you say?” He waited for her answer.

“That was a horrible proposal.”

“I’m sorry.” He got up and walked over to her side of the bed, took her hand in his, cleared his throat and made a second attempt. “Kyla, will you marry me.”

She looked at him for a brief moment, before replying, “Baby, I’m not Susie Homemaker. I like things the way they are.” He stood up, looking at her with no reaction. “Like I told you before, I’m not interested in marriage.”

“We don’t have to live together, it could be like it is now. Only difference is, we’d be married.”

“How is that like what we have now? I don’t want to be legally bound to you, or anyone else for that matter.” She tried to read his expression. “If this is something you feel you need to do, then I think you should get married.”

“But you said you didn’t want to get married.”

“I don’t.” She stood up and put her robe on. “Excuse me.” She walked into the kitchen and he followed her.

“I’m a little confused. You agree with my decision to get married, but you don’t want to marry me.”

“That’s correct.” She poured two glasses of champagne.

“I don’t understand.”

She took a long sip and answered him. “It’s very simple. You need a wife. Let me rephrase that, you want a showpiece. Someone your patients can relate to, right?”

“Yes.”

“All I want from you is sex.”
