The view inside my writing space, varies all the time. I do have an office that I try to spend a good part of my day in, to get writing, marketing, whatever it is that I need to get done that day. My office is a moss green. I have my laptop sitting on an antique table, it was a wedding gift to my great grandparents. Unfortunately the years weren't all that kind to it, so I stripped it and refinished it. It's a pretty neat old table. I have nicnacs that my kids have made me over the years, sitting on my desk. I have special gifts that my husband has given me over the years in my office as well. I have things from my sisters and friends that are special to me. On the walls, I have inspirational pictures and a couple of paintings that my mom painted. I am not really big on worrying about what my writing space looks like or how it is set up but I do like to have things that have meaning around me. Sometimes however I like to get out of my office to write. I write pretty much anytime, anywhere. If I have five free minutes I am usually writing something. I just need a pen and paper or my laptop and I can write. The only place I have found that I don't do well at getting any writing done is when I am out in nature. I prefer to go hiking or just sit and enjoy the beauty.

The view outside my window is beautiful. I live in the country, so when I look out the glass panes that are little too high and a little too small for my liking, I see nature. Large poplar trees, evergreens, lilac bushes and several other types of trees, all set against the backdrop of the sky. Sometimes birds come and perch in the branches, distracting me for far too long. I face northwest so I never get the full sun in my office but I do have a beautiful view of the big blue yonder. Well on days that it is actually blue. Even on days when it is grey, raining, snowing, I find looking outside inspiring. It helps me with crafting settings and getting ideas. On those days, the view is good because it keeps me in my seat writing. However on other days, usually when the sun is shining, it compels me to go out and play, something I find way too easy to do. :)

About the Author:
Maggie Thom made the hard decision to leave her successful, twenty year career in management, to write full time. The leap was easy, the freefall was adventurous and very enlightening. When she’s not running her children around or spending time with her best friend, her husband, she’s writing - anywhere, anytime. Give her five free minutes and you’ll find her busy scribbling down ideas. She lives in the real world but loves to get lost in the lives of her characters - who live, love and laugh and are all figments of her imagination. She is thrilled to release her first novel - Captured Lies - filled with suspense, murder, mystery and romance - available October 2012. She is busy writing her second novel to be released, spring of 2013.

Hi Indeborg. It is beautiful. The only thing that might improve it is if there were mountains or the ocean. Maybe someday...

Hi MomJane I am very content in life, in writing, in just about everything. I am loving the journey that I am on. How about you?

  8. It amazing me that your writing flows no matter how busy your surrounding, you are able to focus and write and draw on what ever is around you. I find that my mind becomes clearer in nature and writing flows much easier as I let the busyness of my mind fade away and let that higher part of me take over.

Hi Mindgardner. I love looking out at nature when I write, that is my preference but I can and will write any time any where. I draw what I need from the world around me and shut out the rest. My real preference is to be in nature but when I am I let go of everything and shut down my mind. That becomes my rejuvenating time.

I think it helps the creative process to have a pleasant environment, and having your beautiful view would have a positive and refreshing effect.
