The Writer's View: Pamela Fryer

You know, this is a great opportunity. No one has ever asked to see my writing space before. And if you’ve read any of my other posts during my virtual tour this week, you’ve read that housework sometimes...er...very often takes a back seat to my writing. So now that someone wants to see my writing space, what great inspiration to clean. Come on in. Can I offer you a cup of virtual tea? I have a lovely green jasmine, my drink of preference when writing.

I’m a hopeless note writer. I have to have lots of post-it pads. The yellow notebook (that I just realized you can’t see in the photo) is my revision book. I make a list for every book I’m in revisions with. It’s a great way to remember that question I had about chapter two or that fact I need to double check chapter three, which I would surely forget about by the time I hit chapter six. So even though all editing is done digitally, I still need paper.





Yes, the roses in the vase are silk. They are contract roses, awarded by my lovely chapter for every book sold. The white was for my first sale. I keep them on my writing desk as inspiration, and a reminder of the glorious rewards that can come if I only finish the blasted book.











And watching over me (or threatening to behead me, I’m not sure which) is my little knight figurine, along with my stone gargoyle. My friend and fellow author Jasmine Haynes gave me three gargoyles. Another sits on the desk level, and the third watches over my back yard.









This is the view from my office window. It’s the one side of my backyard that isn’t overcrowded with tomato plants, string bean trellises, and the assortment of other vegetables my husband likes to grow. I have to keep my window closed, or I’ll see something like a weed that needs to be pulled or a fern that needs water, and I’ll find myself distracted from writing.






I need a very isolated writing capsule to focus without distraction. Half the time, I’m sitting in here in the dark. No music. It has to be neat, or I feel itchy. I guess I’m a little bit Obsessive Compulsive. (Just a little)
