The Writer's View: Pamela Fryer

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Pamela will be awarding $10 Amazon GCs to three randomly drawn commenters during the tour and an autographed copy of her novel, The Midnight Effect to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

You know, this is a great opportunity. No one has ever asked to see my writing space before. And if you’ve read any of my other posts during my virtual tour this week, you’ve read that housework sometimes...er...very often takes a back seat to my writing. So now that someone wants to see my writing space, what great inspiration to clean. Come on in. Can I offer you a cup of virtual tea? I have a lovely green jasmine, my drink of preference when writing.

I’m a hopeless note writer. I have to have lots of post-it pads. The yellow notebook (that I just realized you can’t see in the photo) is my revision book. I make a list for every book I’m in revisions with. It’s a great way to remember that question I had about chapter two or that fact I need to double check chapter three, which I would surely forget about by the time I hit chapter six. So even though all editing is done digitally, I still need paper.

Yes, the roses in the vase are silk. They are contract roses, awarded by my lovely chapter for every book sold. The white was for my first sale. I keep them on my writing desk as inspiration, and a reminder of the glorious rewards that can come if I only finish the blasted book.

And watching over me (or threatening to behead me, I’m not sure which) is my little knight figurine, along with my stone gargoyle. My friend and fellow author Jasmine Haynes gave me three gargoyles. Another sits on the desk level, and the third watches over my back yard.

This is the view from my office window. It’s the one side of my backyard that isn’t overcrowded with tomato plants, string bean trellises, and the assortment of other vegetables my husband likes to grow. I have to keep my window closed, or I’ll see something like a weed that needs to be pulled or a fern that needs water, and I’ll find myself distracted from writing.

I need a very isolated writing capsule to focus without distraction. Half the time, I’m sitting in here in the dark. No music. It has to be neat, or I feel itchy. I guess I’m a little bit Obsessive Compulsive. (Just a little)

Thank you so much for visiting my creative space! Writing is such a solitary endeavor, it’s nice to have the occasional visitor. Stop by any time!

About the Author:Pamela Fryer has a vivid imagination. As a teenager, she thought she’d write a book, have Stephen King-like fame, and buy a big house for her family in Woodside Hills (where today you can’t find a fixer-upper for under a million dollars). Reality sank in fast, but that didn’t stop Pamela from writing the stories spinning through her imagination.

When asked why she writes romance, the answer is simple. There’s too much violence, anger and hatred in this world, and this is her way of bringing back a tiny bit of joy. Her favorite stories to write are about the reluctant heroine like Fallon Monroe—the underdog, the persecuted, the one against the many, the small against the large, who somehow manage to rise above undefeatable odds and triumph. And always with a happy ending.

Pamela Fryer lives in Northern California with her family and a sweet little adoptee from the local animal shelter who is now running the household. Please visit www.pamelafryer.com. She loves hearing from readers. Send an email to Pamela at pamela@pamelafryer.com.

Hired to transport the donor clone across the country for the heart transplant needed to save her nephew’s life, private detective Fallon Monroe never expected to be hunted by terrorists, dirty cops, and her sister’s hired henchmen, all while carrying the burden of a terrible choice.

Thank you for sharing. I do enjoy a glimpse into the world of a writer. The 'contract roses' are such a lovely idea. I hope your vase continues to fill.

Your desk looks better than mine, I might have to clean up my things as well. :)

The roses are gorgeous!
Are the white one's always given for the first contract or also for the 10th, 20th one as well?

Contract roses--what a sweet idea for a reward! I like jasmine tea, too, though I've been mainlining the espresso these days...

I loved the pictures. I can imagine you sitting there writing and that is fun. The roses are an additional reward for you. I like that idea.

Sometimes there are more important things to do than housework, I understand that. I love roses, they are my favorite flower. I have rose bushes all around my house.

Hi Judy! Thanks so much for having me. I have to admit, it's a little nerve wracking to let people see "under the hood" of my writing world. Since all my friends think it's so glamorous, I hate to break their fantasies :)

Like others have mentioned, the reward/inspiration roses are lovely. We sometimes forget how powerful a simple gesture like a silk rose can be.

You have a nice work place, if mine is not neat, I cannot concentrate but in the process my desk becomes a bit of a mess with books, pictures everywhere.
