3WW (again on Thursday)

... do you note a theme with this???

Welcome to another installment from Bone.

Welcome to Three Word Wednesday. Each week, I will post three (or more) random words. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something using all of those words. It can be a few lines, a story, a poem, anything. I'll also attempt to write something using the same three words.

Leave a comment if you participate. Many fun and interesting people might visit your blog.

This week's words are:

Fiona rushed through the hospital door. Linda Sue, her arms wrapped tightly around herself, paced up and down the small waiting room. Traces of tears showed on her cheeks. Tears which welled up again when she saw Fiona.

Fiona wrapped her friend in her arms. "Bucky just told me Tommy had been rushed to the hospital. He didn't know what was going on though. Was there an accident?"

Linda Sue squeezed Fiona so hard she nearly couldn't breathe. Through sobs she told Fiona they were suspecting a stroke.

"I've told him and told him he needed to get to the doctor," she said, almost angrily, as she pushed away from Fiona. "He… he always said there wasn't anything wrong. He would go after tax season was over, or after summer vacation, or …" She sniffed and swiped the back of her hand under her nose. "The big stubborn galoot."

Fiona opened her mouth to respond, but the doctor came in and interrupted them. "Mrs. Griffin?"

Linda Sue turned towards him. "Is he alright?"

"Let me assure you, we are doing everything we possibly can. I want to make sure I understand the conditions when you found him. He was in the yard?"

"Oh for heaven's sake! I told the EMT all of this. I called him for breakfast. He'd been out feeding the horses and when he didn't come in, I went out to find him. The… the pancakes were getting c-c-cold and I was so mad at him…"

Fiona put her arm around her friend's shoulder until Linda Sue got herself back in control. "He.. he was walking around… kinda stumbling around. He didn't know where he was or what had happened. I… I got scared and called the ambulance. His dad died of a stroke and I was afraid… even though his blood pressure was always good…"

"You can set your mind at ease on that count," the doctor said, his voice gentle. "He didn't have a stroke. When we ran the MRI, we found evidence of a small fracture at the back of his skull. He's had some kind of trauma."

Linda Sue looked confused. "Trauma? You mean he fell? There's... there's really nothing to fall from... that would cause a lot of damage, I mean."

"Either that or…" The doctor's face clouded and he cleared his throat. "There's a possibility that someone hit him. I didn't want to leave him alone until we found out something for sure. I've left a nurse with him… and I've called the police."

Stolen from Uisce (with his full permission and blessing!)

TIME OF DAY: 10 pm (or there abouts) when Bob and I go to bed. Snuggle time ;-)

DAY OF THE WEEK: Sunday. We have a lazy day... watch British mysteries I've DVR'ed and have British food for dinner

SEASON: Spring. I love the warmth after winter and the new growth and my garden

HOLIDAY: Christmas

BEACHES: I like the beach down on St. George Island. It's just across the bridge from where we have our place at Eastpoint. We like it more for the fishing than the beaching though.

SONG: Bantry Bay, from Phil Coulter's Forgotten Dreams. Everytime I hear that song, it takes me back to my trip to Ireland.

FLOWER: Roses and Orchids.

TALK SHOW: I don't watch talk shows.

MOVIE: Casablanca... the non-colorized version.

SOAPS: Anything that smells fresh, not soapy

BEVERAGE: Diet Coke (exciting, huh?)

FRUIT: Granny Smith apples... with salt

SNACK: Unfortunately for my weight's sake, potato chips and dip

FOOD: I have a lot of favorites here... depending on my mood I enjoy Italian, Mexican, or Chinese. It would be easier to tell you what foods I don't like: beets/coconut. Yep, that's it.

RESTAURANT: The Grill in Apalachicola. They have the world's best oyster po'boy... hmmmmmm.... we go just about every trip down to the shore.

Feel free to play along and leave a note either here or here (or both)!

Now... I know you have all been anxiously awaiting the winner of my contest. There were some great ideas and y'all really helped me with this dilemma (didn't dilemma used to be spelled dilemna?) The winner of the book prize is: Margaret. Congratulations!!!

And, which scenerio did I pick for Fiona's Dream? You'll have to wait til the book comes out for that ;-)

I'm on my way out...

... we're going to the shore! Yea!! We've been SO busy this week, we really need a break.

The internet connection is iffy down there, so I don't plan on blogging over the holiday. HOWEVER, I have a contest for you. This one is different from any I've had before.

I'm having a problem with a character in my story. I need your help to figure him out. He's holding a grudge against a girl from high school. Now, this guy is in his thirties. You'd have figured he would get over himself, wouldn't you? Now, I don't know what this girl did to him, but he's STILL hot about it and wants to make her life miserable. Your assignment, Mr. Phelps, if you choose to accept it, is to tell me what she did to him. Leave your answer in the comments and there will be a drawing of all the suggestions when I get back on Tuesday. The winner will receive a book of their choice from Amazon ($20 limit, please). And, as an added benefit, the suggestion I like the most will appear in my newest book, along with an acknowledgement to the suggester (is that even a word?).

And, now... stolen from Marianne:

Your Score: Carole Lombard

You scored 16% grit, 19% wit, 42% flair, and 35% class!

You're a little bit of a fruitcake, but you always act out in style. You have a good sense of humor, are game for almost anything, but you like to have nice things about you and are attracted to the high life. You're stylish and modern, but you've got a few rough edges that keep you from attaining true sophistication. Your leading men include William Powell, Fredric March, and Clark Gable. Watch out for small planes.

Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the Classic Leading Man Test.

Have a great Memorial Day and I'll see y'all on Tuesday!

3 Word Wednesday (on Thursday)

Welcome to another installment from Bone.

Welcome to Three Word Wednesday. Each week, I will post three (or more) random words. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something using all of those words. It can be a few lines, a story, a poem, anything. I'll also attempt to write something using the same three words.

Leave a comment if you participate. Many fun and interesting people might visit your blog.

This week's words are:

Fiona brushed her hair back from her face. With a sigh, she picked up the last bag of trash and looked around the cellar. Even with all the clutter hauled away, the cavernous room was still filthy. It would take a month of scrubbing to get everything clean. But, she was determined to get it done. The thought of having a large storage area after working out of the small storefront she and Bucky were used to was worth any amount of work.

She climbed the steps, forcing one foot in front of another. I swear, these bags gain a pound with each step I take. She didn't even want to know how many large green plastic bags she had toted up these steps today. Enough to nearly fill the dumpster Gary had insisted Golden Waste install right at the back door. She smiled as she thought of the argument that had caused. How tacky it was! But, she hated to admit he was right. After all, it was temporary and it saved umpteen dozen steps. Right now, she guessed convenience won out over aesthetics.

The bag joined its compatriots and she swung the lid closed with a satisfying clang. Mission accomplished, she congratulated herself. A quick sweep to get up the worse of the dirt on the floor and she would call it a day. Tomorrow would be soon enough to tackle the scrubbing.

As always, she double-checked to make sure the block holding the cellar door was in place before she descended. And, as always, she reminded herself they had to get the lock fixed. The last thing they needed was someone accidentally getting locked down there.

The broom whisked against the cement floor and Fiona lost herself in mentally decorating and stocking the room. A scraping sound from the top of the stairs brought her back to the present. The door slammed shut and high-heeled footsteps hurried across the tile of the kitchen floor.

"Hey!" Fiona dropped the broom and rushed up the steps. Without hope, she twisted the door handle. She beat on the heavy wood with her fists.

"Oh, bother!"

Well, she'd just call Gary or Bucky and they would come let her out. Then she would worry about who had locked her in. She had a feeling she already knew though. Visions of Claudia's red stiletto shoes flashed through her mind.

Her cell phone. Her gaze traveled around the cellar before she remembered, with a sinking in the pit of her stomach, she had left it in her jacket pocket. The same jacket that was hanging on the kitchen chair, just five feet away from her. On the other side of the locked door.

Seduction... do you notice a trend?

Since I blogged about seducing a celeb yesterday, I thought I would steal this from Uisce.

Saturday, May 19, 2007

Introducing Seduce a Celeb! is running a contest that allows you to win a date with celebrity, Mirelly Taylor from "Kiss Me Again", "Serving Sara", "Las Vegas" and "Numb3rs".
And, right now, you can take part in this online game. All you have to do is go to Free videos at and vote for your favorite contestant. It's a great way to be interactive and effect the outcome of the game. I don't know for sure, but I think this is the very first interactive online game. I'm not sure who I'm going to vote for yet. There are some very funny videos out there already. It's amazing.

If I could vote for Andrew Firestone, though, I would. He's a cutie. And... I would be more interested in getting a date with him than Mirelly! However, no matter how cute he is, he's still not my top choice for a celebrity I would be interested in dating.

Andrew gives you the lowdown

If I were going to "date a celeb", the one I would be most interested in dating would be, I think, Sean Connery. That is one man that gets sexier the older he gets! And, if they ever feature HIM on a contest like this... well, Bob and I might have to come to some sort of agreement :-) Bob says he's not sure about that.... we'll see ;-)

How about you? Who would you like to see featured on "Seduce a Celeb"?

Bandage Give-away

The twins are having another great contest. If you have kids, a husband, or ever need a bandage for yourself, this is a contest you can't afford not to enter. The folks at 3M have come up with another great product to join their already wonderful line. They come in various shapes and styles and a handy reusable container. This page will show you all the great benefits.

You could rush right out and buy some, but do yourself a favor first. Go here and enter the contest for a chance to win... are you ready for this?... 45 boxes of Nexcare Bandages. What's not to like about this contest?

Friday's Feast

List 3 emotions you experienced this week. happiness, despair, exhaustion

Name a car you’d love to have. I want a convertible. Always have, ever since I read the "Annette" books when I was a kid. Anyone else remember those? They "starred" Annette Funicello and she drove a red convertible.

Describe your typical morning routine. Roll out of bed somewhere between 6;30 and 7, normally. Go potty (first things first, ya know) and weigh. Slip on a pair of pajamas (yeah, you read that right), go grab my cup of coffee (I love the timer on my coffee maker) and check out my email.

Main Course
Have you ever emailed someone famous? If so, who, and what did you say to them? Did they reply? I once did an email interview with Douglas Clegg for ShadowKeep when I edited it. He was very gracious.

Do you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones? haven't gotten into that quite yet.

Happy Mother's Day

A mother's love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we'll ever see
Not lit by that first love.
Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.
How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift--a love of life--
Lay laughing in your eyes.
Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.

A Fun Auction

I discovered this site from Jill's blog and thought I would check it out. How much fun it is! It's not your normal auction. Instead of trying to bid higher than anyone else, you try to bid lower... and a bid that nobody else chooses. There are a lot of great prizes: a plasma TV and home theater package, a car (a BMW... wow), a Logitech package, and many many more. I would really like to win the TV... in fact, I'm bidding on it as we speak! Our TV is on its last legs and it would be a great Father's Day surprise for hubby if I were to win this prize for him!

You don't have to pay anything to join, however if you want to become a premium member and be able to text your bids in, you can. Premium members also have unlimited bids/month.

Check lowest bid out, and have fun!

EDITED TO ADD: Jill informed me I was WRONG (oh, horror of horrors... it's never happened to me before.... anyone believe that?). Turns out she's right.... I messed up and confused my writing blogfriends. I actually ripped this post off Karen. Sorry, Karen! But... both these ladies are beautiful and talented... see how I got confused?

First, Mariane has another GREAT story out. "MilesFrom You" is being released today. And, Marianne is having a super contest to promote this new release. She will be holding a drawing on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at 7PM and one lucky person will win a fabulous bunch of goodies, including (but not limited to) either a Wild Rose Press Commuter Mug or a $5.00 Wild Rose Press gift certificate along with a bunch of goodies to pamper yourself: Avon Naturals raspberry shower gel, a 1/2 pound Hershey's Chocolate bar and a Harlequin Romance novel. It's a win-win situation. You not only get a wonderful read, you get all these goodies too. Who wouldn't want to rush right over and join in the fun.

The wonderful thing is... you don't just get one chance to win! Marianne is giving you (and me ;-)) multiple ways to win. So... go to this site and leave a comment. Tell her I sent you, 'kay?

Now... some news of my own.

I've been having a lot of trouble recently with Fiona's Dream. Honestly, just with writing in general. I told a friend about it and she asked what had I'd been enthused about lately and I couldn't think of a thing. How sad is that?

I woke up early this morning and scenes from Fiona's Dream were playing out in my mind like a movie... and now I have some ideas again. I don't know if the fact of admitting I was having problems helped subconsciously or not, but I'm grateful to friends who are supportive and who don't give up on me.

Now... go to Marianne's and join in the fun.

A Long Meme

Good morning! Another meme for you… but first, for all my writing friends out there. Check out today's PaperBackWriter. She has an excellent article on marketing. I'm not there yet (and, as Marianne will tell you, if I don't get something finished … or the ones I HAVE finished, queried, it won't happen. And that goes for the rest of you too. WRITE!), but I plan on remembering her advice. Check it out.

I've Been Tagged

I recently did interesting facts about me, but now Marianne wants to know some random habits/facts. Here are the rules. Read them while I ponder a bit.

1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

4. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

8 random facts/habits about me ...

1. I have a habit of chewing my nails if I'm reading something particularly thrilling, but not just any nail. Only the index fingers on either hand. That's why those nails are normally shorter than the others.

2. I hate wearing shoes and will normally kick them off my feet as soon as I come home. At one time there was a collection of shoes by the front door. I've broken myself of that habit, but I still have shoes scattered around the house (under the desk, next to my recliner, the back door).

3. I would rather work outside in the yard than inside cleaning up... and the house shows it way too often.

4. My favorite place on earth (besides where my husband is) is beside the ocean. There's something about being on the shore and watching the ebb and flow of the tide and the waves breaking on the sand or rocks that restores my soul.

5. I spend way too much time bloghopping.

6. I spend way too little time on my writing.

7. I wouldn't give up my blogfriends for anything though... well... I won't say anything. If blogging got in the way of my family, then ... yes, I'd give up blogging. But I'd still stay in touch with the blogfriends I'd made through email and such.

8. I haven't had my coffee yet, and now I'm going to go get some (how's THAT for randomness!!!)

Okay…. Now I get to tag eight lovely people of my own. I sure hope they still love me when I'm done. I tag Jill, WordNerd, Gay, Allie, Margie, Rachel, Tori, and last, but certainly not least, Uisce.
Have fun, all.

I've Been Randomized

Marianne was randomized by GroovyOldLady(and she is... make sure you check her out if you don't know her already) and offered the same opportunity to anyone who would take her up on it. So... without further ado, here are my answers to her random questions.

1. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
I think I would choose to be Scarlett O'Hara, because I love the clothes from that time period. Also, I would make sure she didn't let Rhett get away ;-)

2. Share one thing you love and one thing that drives you batty about your husband/significant other.
I love that my husband enjoys so many of the same things I do. We just enjoy each other's company and never get tired of being together. Good thing, since we work together, huh? Nothing really drives me batty about him, but I love having my back scratched and massaged and his hands always "give out" before I'm ready for him to be done. Does that count?

3. If you could go back to high school and repeat one particular day, which day would you choose? Would you change anything about the day? Why or why not?
I don't remember the date, but my best friend since elementary school and I had an argument. She had started hanging around with the "rougher kids" in school... the druggies. Instead of trying to understand her, we pretty much stopped talking. She dropped out of school and moved to Atlanta. While I was in college I found out she had been murdered there. I don't know if anything would have changed if I had been more understanding, but I've always felt I could have been a better friend.

4. Death penalty -- are you for or against? Why? Convince me to agree with you.
I wish I could convince myself. I can see both sides of the argument and I don't really know if there IS a right or wrong answer. There are some crimes so heinous that I believe they should be paid for with the criminal's life. However, that is if there is absolutely no doubt that the accused is guilty. There have been so many cases where people have been proven "not guilty" after they have spent years in prison. This isn't a copout... I'm just really not sure where I stand on this issue.

5. What's the earliest memory you can recall? How old were you?
The first clear memory I have is watching the January 31, 1961, launch of Ham, the first chimpanzee in space. I was in kindergarten and our teacher had us all sit on the floor (this was back in the days of the console TV's that sat on the floor). I can still remember the thrill of seeing that rocketship take off. Here's a picture of the old TVs. I don't remember what the one at kindergarten looked like, but here's a picture of the TV I grew up with. It had a turntable on one side and a radio on the other.

This was fun. Thanks, Marianne. If anybody else wants to be "randomized," leave me a note in the comments.

A Contest and a Review

... not necessarily in that order. First, the review:

I was sent a copy of Mia King's Good Things and it's been a long time since I enjoyed a book this much. It is just a fun read.

Deidre McIntosh isn't your "normal" romance heroine. She's (gasp) in her forties, single, and the star of her own TV show. She's perfectly happy living with her best friend from college, the one man she knows will always be ther for her, and figures life will go on this way for a long time. However, life throws her a curve when she loses her job and her roomie finds a boyfriend and decides to move out, all at the same time. You have to read Good Things to see how Deidre figures out what's important and how she overcomes what seem to be overwhelming problems.

And... one way you can get a chance to read your own autographed copy of Good Things, is by going here AND here and leaving a comment on both posts. Mia will randomly draw a name from those who FOLLOW THE RULES and post on both sites. Not only will she send you an autographed copy of Good Things, she will also give you a personalized 25-35 page full-year astrology report (via PDF) based on Robert Camp’s Destiny cards (to learn more, click here), a $25 value. And... you know what else is super-cool? She's doing this for not one, but TWO lucky people... so you and I can BOTH win! I like it, I like it.

So... go and comment and tell her I sent you.

A Way to Help

A new blogging friend, Kat, is doing her part in supporting our troops. This drive (Operation: Thanks for Freedom 2007) is especially close to my heart. As you know, my son is stationed in Iraq right now. Kat's goal is to send 5000+ cards for the Fourth of July. Please, read her post and support this effort. If anybody has a group looking for a service project, consider this. Here is a news report on this worthy cause.

Thank you.

Another Contest

I don't know how they do it, but those twins at 5 Minutes for Mom are doing it again. From now until May 13, they are sponsoring contests... yes, you read that right. Contests... with an -s. Multiple contests in honor of their favorite holiday of the year...Mother's Day.

To enter the contests, go here and read the instructions carefully. I'm off to play... you ARE going to join me, right?

I am Excited

As I mentioned, we went to the coast last week. Now... Bob bought me a laptop so I could use it to keep up with customers and do invoices, but also so we could have stay "in touch" blogwise and Internet-wise while we were away enjoying the sun and surf and fishing. But... did the dial up connection we pay for every month want to cooperate this time?? Not when Judy was wanting to get on and check her mail, or check out her favorite blog friends, or post her writing, or...! Did Bob have problems? Of course not!! Grrrr....

Anyway, I came home to find that Jill had nominated me for a Thinking Blog Award.

I've known Jill since before Valentine's Day (she was my swap friend for the Valentine Day's Goody Swap) and I've enjoyed her blog ever since. She inspires me. She's a freelancer, a writer, a great mom to "the Boy," and she makes me laugh. She's also going to have a new baby, so hop over and tell her hello.

Here are the "rules":

Should you choose to participate, please make sure you pass this list of rules to the blogs you are tagging. I thought it would be appropriate to include them with the meme.

The participation rules are simple:

1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote

The bloggers I pick are:

Margie from "Do You Have Issues?". She always has something interesting to talk about from a unique perspective.

LadyBugCrossing. I enjoy reading about her family, but she makes me tired. They are a busy, busy family!

Karen from "Write from Karen." She's an excellent writer and has the coolest contests!

Another Karen, this one from "Ms.Karen's Blog." Another writer who makes me laugh.

And.. last but definitely not least, the inimitable Bonnie Wren. One of the highlights in my week is I get to be on Bonnie's Super Sabado! Bonnie is taking a blog-break right now, but hopefully she will be back soon.

Thank you again, Jill, for this honor.

I'm Back

Hi, all. We had the chance to go to the coast last week and I just got back last night. I have lots to catch up on... thanks to Jill ;-)... but we have to run and give some estimates. I'll be back later this afternoon. For now... I'll leave you with this, courtesy of Marianne.

You Are a Plain Ole Cup of Joe

But don't think plain - instead think, uncomplicated
You're a low maintenance kind of girl... who can hang with the guys
Down to earth, easy going, and fun! Yup, that's you: the friend everyone invites.
And your dependable too. Both for a laugh and a sympathetic ear.
